Teaching

Foundations in Drawing

Most teen to adult classes focus on the foundations: line, edges, construction, and value. I teach a combination of academic and constructive theories, focusing on drawing what you see (light and contour), while also using what you know (form and anatomy) to create accurate, but also compelling images. Focusing on monochromatic images allows the student to practice all of these concepts before moving onto color.

Oil Painting Academic & Alla Prima

I prefer to have a good foundation in drawing and gesture before moving onto paint. With oils, the student will learn about mediums, solvents, brushes, pigments and canvases as well as HOW to actually paint! Color adds another dimension to art. We will focus on color temperatures, underpaintings, how to move paint, finishing a painting in one sitting, as well as long-form painting. Figure, plein air, still-lifes, and composition are all covered.

Children’s Foundational Drawing

Explore the world of art with tempera, acrylic, pencil, chalk, pastel, and digital! These classes a catered toward children and teach line, shapes, basic light and shadow, and how to draw comics, cartoons, and still-lifes! Each class will take into account the students being taught and what they/their parents want them to learn. Please ask for details. Advanced students can move onto young-adult classes.
